This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior nursing leadership role within a distinctive and rewarding healthcare setting. Serving a large rural and coastal population, Hywel Dda offers the chance to lead at scale while remaining closely connected to the communities we serve. West Wales is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty, strong sense of community and excellent quality of life — making it an ideal location for leaders seeking both professional fulfilment and work‑life balance.
Reporting to the Clinical Care Group Service Director and professionally accountable to the Executive Director of Nursing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and improving patient safety, quality and experience across Planned and Specialist Care services. You will lead the quality, governance and patient experience agenda, supporting a culture of openness, learning and continuous improvement across services delivered in hospitals and community settings throughout West Wales.
This role offers significant visibility, autonomy and influence, with the opportunity to make a tangible difference to patient care and staff experience in a health board where senior nursing leadership is highly valued.
Main duties of the job
As a Nursing and Midwifery Council registrant, you will provide strong professional and strategic leadership to Nurses and Health Care Support Workers across the Clinical Care Group, enabling high‑quality, safe and compassionate care for the people of West Wales.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading quality, patient safety, clinical governance and patient experience, ensuring national and Health Board priorities are translated into meaningful improvements for patients and communities.
Supporting the development of nursing practice and leadership across the organisation, ensuring consistent standards, professional credibility and a clear nursing voice at senior level.
Promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive culture aligned with Hywel Dda values, where staff feel empowered, listened to and proud to work.
Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, operational leaders and system partners across a geographically diverse region, influencing improvement across organisational and professional boundaries.
You will bring highly developed leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire and engage teams through visible, compassionate and values‑based leadership — and a genuine commitment to improving care for populations across West Wales.
