Assistant Tax Manager

Location: remote across the UK, with 1 day per month travel to London-based office

Employment Type: Permanent

Overview

We are partnered with a global pharmaceutical organisation seeking an Assistant Tax Manager to support the delivery of tax compliance requirements for its European pharmaceutical headquarters. This role will work closely with the European Holdings tax team and support corporation tax compliance, indirect tax processes, and transfer pricing activities across UK and European entities.

This is a good opportunity to be independent and autonomous, partnering with a global team of experts as the organisation creates highly impactful therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the preparation of corporation tax returns for UK/EU entities in coordination with external advisors, ensuring accuracy and readiness for review by the European Holdings tax team.
Support the preparation of R&D tax credit claims, patent box claims, and capital allowances related to leasehold improvements.

Prepare corporation tax computations for the finance team, support payment estimations, and assist with instalment payments to relevant tax authorities.

Coordinate the preparation of data required for VAT returns, Intrastat declarations, and EC Sales Listings across relevant jurisdictions.

Review invoices and system data to ensure accurate VAT coding, maintain VAT-related master data in SAP Business One, and support VAT control account reconciliations.

Act as a key point of contact for VAT-related matters, ensuring supply chain transactions follow correct VAT principles.

Gather and analyse data to support tax recovery initiatives and assist with information requests during tax authority audits.

Support transfer pricing adjustments and documentation, while maintaining tax filings, deadlines, and tax-related payment processes.

Requirements

Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA preferred) with 2-5 years of industry experience ideally
Experience in an accounting or tax role with exposure to corporation tax and VAT principles.
Working knowledge of corporation tax compliance and VAT return processes.

Experience with financial systems such as SAP Business One (preferred but not essential).

Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and data consolidation.

Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret large datasets and identify trends or issues.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with finance teams, supply chain functions, and external advisors.
