Audience Editor (News and World)

Your Role: The Audience Editor will work closely with the News and World Editors to deliver distinctive, agenda-setting content across all platforms and make sure it lands with impact.

As Audience Editor, you will identify digital opportunities, shape and execute audience-first plans, and share data and insights with the News and World desks. You will have excellent knowledge of SEO, social media and data analysis, plus a strong news sense. You will also act as a key ambassador for audience-led thinking, rolling out a wider digital strategy to the News and World desks.

The Audience Editor will be a hands-on part of the News and World desks, but will report to the Head of Audience and will be expected to share insights with the wider newsroom on a regular basis.

This role is required to regularly work Saturdays, with an expectation to work Tuesday to Saturday.

Day to day you will:

• Establish productive relationships with the editors on the News and World desks, reporters across the newsroom and with the audience team
• Help shape digital content packages, advising on sells, formats and identifying gaps in coverage
• Translate data into actionable insights, providing both real-time guidance to commissioning editors and long-term strategic advice to drive growth and remediate underperforming content. You will use both real-time and historical data to inform editorial decision-making, providing deep-dives into specific themes or topics when required
• Host weekly content review sessions with senior editorial leaders
• Shape wider newsroom strategy that could extend to all desks

What we’re looking for from you:

• An excellent communicator and presenter, with well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve
• Experience working in audience, social media and SEO for a newspaper or major news organisation
• Must have demonstrable passion for news, politics and world affairs
• Experience in SEO and keyword research to derive new insights and recommendations for the desk
• Excellent data analysis skills, with the ability to both interrogate and relay findings to senior stakeholders
• The ability to execute a large project and identify audience needs and decide the most relevant growth and engagement tactics to employ
• An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy
• Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively, with resilience to implement change in the face of adversity
• Reliable and prepared to put in extra time and effort as the news cycle demands
• Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
• A strong understanding of editorial compliance and media law
