AWS DevOps Engineer

Location: Remote (UK-Based)

Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance Required

Amber Labs is a cutting-edge technology consultancy delivering innovative digital solutions across UK Central Government. We specialise in cloud transformation, DevOps enablement, and secure-by-design engineering, supporting high-profile programmes that make a real impact.


We are currently seeking an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to join our growing team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a fully remote UK-based role, working on mission-critical Central Government projects.


Essential Requirements

  • Active SC Clearance (mandatory)
  • Proven experience delivering on UK Central Government programmes
  • Strong hands-on AWS DevOps engineering experience
  • Expertise in:
  • AWS cloud services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, etc.)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
  • Containerisation (Docker)
  • Kubernetes (EKS preferred)
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and secure cloud architecture
  • Experience working in Agile, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to take ownership of technical solutions and contribute to engineering best practice

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable AWS cloud infrastructure
    • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
    • Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS)
    • Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines
    • Ensure compliance with Government security standards and best practices
    • Collaborate with architects, developers, and security teams
    • Contribute to technical decision-making and continuous improvement


    Desirable Skills

    • Experience working to Government Digital Service (GDS) standards
    • Knowledge of logging/monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
  • Experience with cost optimisation in AWS environments
  • AWS Certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer)
