Our Acute Stroke Unit is a dynamic, fast‑paced environment dedicated to delivering timely, evidence‑based care to patients in the earliest and most critical phases of stroke. Working within a skilled multidisciplinary team, the unit provides specialist assessment, hyperacute interventions, and focused rehabilitation to support recovery from the moment of admission.

Main duties of the job

The Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) is a 31 bedded ward with a 4 bedded hyperacute bay that take acute admissions from the Emergency Department and other hospitals. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurses who have a passion for developing their knowledge and skills in Stroke nursing. You’ll work closely with a wide range of professionals including Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and other specialists across the hospital.

Essential criteria

• You’ll need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing in English. You don’t need any formal qualifications in maths but you will need to have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations. You’ll need to understand what these mean as you’ll be documenting the results in patient notes and communicating to your team.
• Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council
• Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for own practice & behaviour.

• You will need to be able to use IT systems and databases. You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems. You will know when you are able to correct or when to escalate
