Band 7 Haematology and Oncology Outpatient and Clinic Unit Manager

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated nurse leader to join our team as a Band 7 Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and Clinic Manager at Heartlands Hospital.

You will provide operational, clinical, and professional leadership to the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and outpatient clinics, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centred care. This role is ideal for a dynamic individual with a strong background in cancer services who is passionate about service development, team leadership, and improving patient experience.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

• Provide visible, compassionate leadership to nursing and support staff.
• Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and clinics.
• Ensure safe administration of systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT), blood products, and supportive therapies.
• Monitor staffing levels, skill mix, and rota coordination.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and service development projects.
• Ensure compliance with local and national cancer standards, governance, and safety frameworks.
• Work collaboratively with consultants, pharmacy, AHPs, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Manage budgets, resources, and performance targets.
• Support staff development, appraisal, and clinical supervision.
• Act as a clinical role model and expert practitioner.

• Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
• Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/ students .
• Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
• Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.
• Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with the clinical service.
• Evidence of effective multi-professional working.
• Experience of being a mentor
• Demonstration of a significant contribution to innovative practice or change management
• Experience in interviewing and selection of staff
• Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice
