Description
Brackley, UK

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Operations group for a Build Production Engineer, working within the Build Production Engineering function.

About the Role:

This is a hands-on engineering role, focused on identifying process improvement opportunities and personally delivering the solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking ideas from concept through design, implementation, validation and handover, owning the full project lifecycle and managing the practical nuances that arise in a fast-paced, high-performance manufacturing environment.

The role spans software, CAD, hardware, automation and data-driven process improvements, and will play a key part in defining how we build and maintain Formula One cars of the future with greater efficiency, quality and reliability.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Identify, analyse and prioritise process improvement opportunities across Car Build and associated manufacturing areas.
  • Take direct ownership of improvement projects, delivering solutions end-to-end, from concept generation and feasibility, through design, build, commissioning and sustained operation.
  • Design and implement practical process solutions, including tooling, fixtures, automation, software tools and data capture systems.
  • Actively work on the shop floor to trial, refine and embed new processes, resolving issues as they arise during implementation.
  • Introduce and integrate new technologies such as automation, digital tools, smart manufacturing systems and enhanced data pipelines.
  • Define, build and maintain data collation and reporting solutions to enable data-driven decision making and transparent performance tracking.
  • Work closely with Design Office, Production, Quality, ERP and IT teams to ensure solutions are robust, compliant and aligned to operational needs.
  • Improve quality and reliability through better process control, error-proofing, and compliance with ISO and internal standards.
  • Apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques to production and process issues.
  • Support machine-related projects, including consideration of machine safety systems, machine design, and the application of technology where appropriate.
  • Document and standardise successful solutions through SOPs, ADs and training material to ensure long-term sustainability.

  • Key Essential Skills:

    • Degree educated in a relevant engineering discipline.
    • Proven experience in a hands-on process, manufacturing or production engineering role, ideally within Formula 1, motorsport, aerospace or a similar high-performance environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to personally deliver process improvements through the full project lifecycle.
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, quality requirements and operational constraints.
    • Experience working with automation, digital manufacturing tools, data capture systems or smart factory concepts.
    • Beneficial knowledge of machine safety systems and machine sensor technologies.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and product control documentation.
    • Familiarity with CAD tools such as 3DX, CATIA V5 or similar for model design.
    • Proficient in MS Office; experience with ERP systems such as SAP is advantageous.
    • Comfortable managing multiple workstreams and priorities in a dynamic environment.

    Candidate Profile:

    • A self-starter with a strong bias for action and ownership.
  • Comfortable working at all levels, from detailed technical problem solving on the shop floor to cross-functional collaboration.
  • Highly analytical, with a structured approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Pragmatic and resilient, able to adapt solutions as real-world constraints emerge.
  • Innovative, with a strong interest in new technologies and digital transformation (e.g. automation, AI, data analytics).
  • Team-oriented, collaborative and open in communication.
  • Driven by continuous improvement and a desire to leave processes better than you found them.
