Location: National (supporting secure house block projects with the Ministry of Justice)
Play a key role in delivering safer, more secure facilities.
Laing O'Rourke is seeking a
Building Regulations Principal Contractor – Compliance Coordinator to support the delivery of a series of small but high-profile secure house block projects with the
Ministry of Justice. This role provides the opportunity to work at the heart of compliance, quality, and safety – ensuring our projects are built right first time and to the highest regulatory standards.
This is a national role, requiring periodic travel and overnight stays depending on project needs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Support Laing O'Rourke project teams as BRPC, ensuring statutory responsibilities under Part 2A of the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended) are fulfilled.
- Ensure building work complies with all relevant requirements during construction, only appointing competent organisations and individuals.
- Act as the liaison between dutyholders – Client, Building Regulations Principal Designer, contractors, and designers – promoting cooperation and shared accountability.
- Support systems for assessing and recording competence, reviewing throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct risk-based inspections of works, documenting and resolving compliance issues with independence and rigour.
- Participate in site inspections with Registered Building Inspectors / Building Control Approvers to maintain assurance on key risks (e.g. fire, structure, complex elements).
- Maintain clear, auditable records of competence checks, inspections, and communications to demonstrate compliance at completion.
- Encourage proactive compliance behaviours across project teams and support continuous improvement in regulatory understanding.
- Provide feedback to the Central Building Safety Team, contributing to optimisation and innovation in compliance practice.
What we're looking for
- Degree in Building Surveying, Building Control, Architecture, Structural or Fire Engineering, Construction Management or a related field (desirable).
- Chartered (or working towards) membership with RIBA, CABE, RICS or equivalent.
- At least 10 years' experience in the built environment, ideally on major projects.
- Strong background in site inspections and associated documentation.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide teams through complex regulations.
- Collaborative approach with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Proven ability to balance technical rigour, quality, and risk management in fast-paced environments.
