The Business Development Manager plays a key role in advancing the Press's academic mission by delivering sustainable commercial growth through trusted global partnerships that expand access to research, learning, and scholarship
The Business Development Team, having expanded very rapidly since its inception, is responsible for a wide range of IP-related Sales portfolios including Content Licensing, eVendor and third-party partnerships, International Film, Audio and Translation Rights Sales, Permissions Sales, Book Special Sales, Journal Special sales and Corporate Library Sales.

About The Role
Business Development Managers are responsible for various sales portfolios, and work closely with the Director of Business Development, the other Business Development Managers and any other applicable stakeholders on the long-term planning and sustainability of these activities. This role will looks after our third-party eVendor & aggregator distribution network, working globally across library, retail, HE and bespoke subject and industry specialist partners.
Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:
Oversee and lead the eVendor partner portfolio globally, which includes a network of standardized and bespoke partnerships, including retail eVendors, HE partners, Library partners and subject specialist aggregators. Work closely with the head of department to implement a strategy that aligns with the wider eVendor & Partnerships strategy.
Increase the financial line year on year for this activity, whilst being careful to protect Cambridge IP, managing risk mitigation along with other stakeholder experiences, and ensuring there is no cannibalisation of other sales channels. Make certain that all partnership models and commercial activities directly support Cambridge's long‑term strategic, academic, and commercial priorities. Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify growth opportunities and interpret emerging industry trends that shape future direction.
Take direct responsibility for key business development partnerships or new opportunities, negotiating with customers and brokering large deals.
Directly manage specific partnerships within the portfolio of Business Development's third-party distribution network.
Work closely with counterparts in Editorial and other Teams to understand developments in books Publishing and potential opportunities across Business Development activities.
Proactively collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure projects are fulfilled smoothly, from inception to delivery, always looking to improve the customer experience.
Provide accurate and realistic budget forecasting for relevant BD activities and provide monthly reporting.
Assist the team with any other activities that fall within the Business Development remit.
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. About You
Commercially astute business development professional with a proven track record of delivering significant revenue growth through strategic partnerships, licensing, and digital distribution
Deep expertise in global digital distribution models, eVendor ecosystems, licensing frameworks, and commercial pricing strategies
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)
Experienced in using CRM systems such as SAP and Salesforce to drive data-led decision making
Strong analytical capability in sales performance, revenue optimization, and forecasting
Confident in leading complex, high-value negotiations with international partners
