After 33+ years of excellence, Leighton are on our next chapter of growth - and we need a highly motivated BDR who will play a huge role in generating the enterprise opportunities we want to deliver.

You will identify decision-makers, craft compelling outreach, and create high-quality opportunities for our senior business development team.

You will be given the chance to grow and develop within Leighton as we continue to drive commercial success whilst always maintaining outstanding company culture.

You will have the opportunity to build and develop your business development career at an outstanding business with a reputation for nurturing talent.

Why Leighton

  • Established credibility: 33 years of delivering custom software solutions to global companies.
  • Real influence: You will play a significant role in winning exciting large-scale projects.
  • Elite technical talent to support: Partner with our world-class engineers and architects to support opportunities for complex technical projects.
  • High-value deals: You will pursue enterprise-scale engagements.
  • Set up for success: Collaborative working with our senior business development team, pre-sales consultants and marketing engine.
  • Career progression: You will have the opportunity to grow within Leighton and in time, progress into a more senior business development role.

Please note: this role will require regular travel to Leeds, Newcastle and London as part of it's remit.

What You Will Do

  • Build the pipeline that drives growth: Research and identify high-value enterprise prospects in software development consulting. You will build targeted lists, uncover key decision-makers, and understand their business challenges before making first contact.
  • Master multi-channel outreach: Execute strategic prospecting campaigns across phone, email, LinkedIn, and other channels. You will craft compelling messages that resonate with C-suite executives and create genuine interest in Leighton's capabilities.
  • Qualify and nurture opportunities: Conduct discovery conversations to understand prospect pain points, technology challenges, and strategic priorities. You will assess fit, identify urgency, and determine which opportunities are ready for senior business development engagement.
  • Create sales-ready meetings: Schedule high-quality meetings between qualified prospects and our Senior Business Development Managers. You will prepare detailed briefings.
  • Develop market intelligence: Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor movements, and shifts in enterprise technology buying. You will bring insights about emerging opportunities and changing market dynamics to the team.
  • Collaborate to win: Work alongside Marketing to refine campaigns and messaging. Partner with Senior BDMs to support deal progression. Contribute ideas to improve our prospecting strategies and conversion rates.
  • Target driven: You will be accountable for daily and weekly activity metrics (calls, emails, research) and monthly outcome metrics (qualified meetings set, pipeline contribution).

  • Knowledge Skills & Abilities

What makes you the ideal candidate

    • Hungry to learn and grow: You're early in your business development career (0-2 years) but you're ambitious and eager for a career in enterprise technology sales.
    • Exceptional communication skills: You can write compelling emails, hold confident phone conversations, and articulate value propositions clearly.
    • Resilient and persistent: You understand that prospecting involves rejection. You bounce back quickly, learn from no's, and stay focused on the next opportunity.
    • Research excellence: You know how to use LinkedIn, company websites, news sources, and databases to build comprehensive prospect profiles.
  • Curiosity about technology: You don't need to be a developer, but you're genuinely interested in how software gets built, how enterprises use technology, and what challenges CIOs and CTOs face.
  • Organised and metrics-driven: You manage your pipeline meticulously. You track activities, follow up reliably, and use data to optimise your approach.
  • Team player with individual drive: You thrive in collaborative environments but are self-motivated enough to manage your own daily activities. You celebrate team wins and contribute to a positive, high-performance culture.
  • Comfortable with executive conversations: You're not intimidated by senior titles. You can initiate conversations with CIOs and CTOs and ask insightful questions.

  • Who you will work with

Reporting directly to the Head of Business Development, you will be a significant part of the Business Development Team.

This is not a 'lone wolf' role. You will be supported, resourced, and empowered - but you will also be expected to lead, influence, and drive outcomes.

    • Able to take responsibility for your actions
