Description

Want to be part of a UK hub, in a global business that is scaling rapidly, evolving fast and radically changing the decades-old delivery universe? If so, read on, as we’re looking for a BI Developer to join our Data team!

The InPost Newstrade division specialises in final-mile delivery for newspaper publishers and magazine distributors, covering 75% of the UK and Ireland with a 45% market share. Operating from 36 locations, it delivers almost 1bn newspapers, magazines, and collectibles to around 21,000 customers. The division includes core final-mile operations, magazine primary distribution, corporate distribution, outsourced retail consultancy, and airside media placement.

As our network grows at lightning speed, so do the opportunities within it. This is your chance to be part of something big, where every day is fast-paced, impactful, and full of possibilities.

About the role:

As our BI Developer, you'll be responsible for providing development and maintenance support for the Newstrade BI systems, helping the Newstrade business achieve its reporting needs and enabling reporting of data to retail partners. You'll also maintain existing feeds and report generation processes and assist in development of the systems towards a cloud-based service.

This role has great development prospects; with an experienced part-time team member to initially shadow and assist with resolving current data quality issues and aim for the new BI Developer to eventually take full responsibility for the data systems within Newstrade.

What you’ll be doing

Data Pipeline Maintenance

  • Monitor and maintain existing ETL processes to ensure timely and accurate data loading from source systems (SAP, EPOS, FODI, Packing).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues within the ETL pipelines.
  • Implement enhancements to existing ETL processes to improve performance, data quality, and scalability.

Ad-Hoc Reporting Support

  • Respond to ad-hoc data requests from the Newstrade Commercial team, providing timely and accurate information to support decision-making.
  • Develop custom reports and queries using SQL and Power BI to meet specific business needs.

Power BI Report Development

  • Design, develop, and deploy new Power BI reports for internal and external users.
  • Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) in Power BI to ensure data privacy and customisation for external retail partners.
  • Maintain and enhance existing Power BI reports and semantic models.

Legacy System Knowledge Transfer and ETL Modernisation

  • Shadow the existing team member with OWB experience to gain a thorough understanding of current ETL processes.
  • Document existing ETL processes, data mappings, and business rules.
  • Participate in the planning and design of a future ETL migration to a modern cloud-based solution.
  • Assist with the ongoing migration from the legacy MIS system, ensuring all critical processes are successfully transferred and tested.

Our tech stack;

  • Oracle PL/SQL
  • Version control
  • Azure DevOps
  • Databricks
  • SAP
  • Business Objects

What we need from you

We’re looking for people who are ready for a fast paced environment, get their kicks out of problem solving and can balance getting today's stuff done, whilst building for the future. We’re looking for people with drive and natural curiosity – who want to do things differently. And do them brilliantly.

  • SQL Development - Solid SQL skills with practical experience in data warehouse environments. This includes writing complex queries, designing and maintaining dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas), and understanding performance considerations such as indexing and query optimisation. Experience with a modern SQL-based platform is expected; familiarity with Oracle SQL is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • ETL Processes - Demonstrable experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines — loading data from source systems into a data warehouse, handling data quality issues, and scheduling and monitoring jobs. Ability to troubleshoot failures and improve the reliability of existing processes.
  • Power BI Development - Strong Power BI skills across the full development lifecycle, including semantic model design, DAX measure development, report and dashboard creation, and Row-Level Security (RLS) for both internal and external audiences. Experience managing and maintaining content within the Power BI Service (workspaces, datasets, scheduled refreshes, deployment pipelines).
  • Capturing Business Requirements - Ability to work directly with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate these into clear technical requirements and deliverables. Comfortable facilitating requirements discussions and managing expectations across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Personal Attributes - Able to communicate technical concepts clearly to commercial non-technical stakeholders, comfortable working with legacy systems and complex inherited codebases, and self-motivated, capable of managing priorities independently in a small team.

  • The InPost process:

We pride ourselves on our candidate experience. We want to make this as straightforward as possible, for you and for us! We will try our best to get back to you within a few days to let you know if we’d like to take you to the first stage. This normally involves a 20 minute chat with our Talent Team. If we both feel the connection, you’ll then go through another one or two stages, depending on the level of the role.

At InPost, we love uniqueness. Our strength is our people.

We strive to create an open, equal, inclusive environment in which everyone has the opportunity to flourish and be themselves.
