The role
In this role, you’ll be a critical and trusted partner to a member of the CTO and their senior leadership team, supporting the delivery of their Strategy and leading the day-to-day operations of their team, enabling them to operate efficiently. Primarily, you’ll take the lead on the team’s business reporting requirements, forward planning, resource management, business continuity, risk management and oversight of key supplier relationships. You’ll also contribute to the team’s project portfolio and provide support with project-related initiatives. This is an important role which requires a strong operational focus as well as a lens on the team’s strategic project and programme activity and its relevance to wider business goals.
What you will be doing
Review reports on behalf of the GEC member, producing executive summaries and identifying where response or decisions are required. This will involve working with the senior Leadership Team to gather appropriate insight and data.
Contribute to and support the development of the GEC team’s strategic business plan and, together with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), ensure that it’s well-understood across the team and by our stakeholders, monitoring and reporting on progress against our strategic KPIs.
Partner with Group Risk in respect of the directorate’s risk register, ensuring that due focus is applied on risks affecting the delivery of the strategy, or wider risks across the Group, and that appropriate steps are taken to mitigate them.
Lead the day-to-day operational activity of the team to ensure the effective and efficient running of the function and measure operational KPIs for the function.
Partner with our Finance team to manage and have oversight of the budgets. Including the tracking of spend, expenses and leading annual and/or project budget submissions.
Shape and deliver a communication engagement plan and channel(s) for the team, ensuring that everyone in the team and its stakeholders, are up to speed with latest news and developments.
Work closely with the SLT to ensure that the team has the correct structure, roles and skills in place to deliver the directorate’s strategy.
Develop and oversee a business continuity plan for the team, working closely with the Business Continuity team and SLT in developing and maintaining the plan, and assigning and engaging with tactical and operational recovery team roles.
Provide support to Project/Programme Manager(s) as required to maintain project documentation, coordinate meetings and events, communicate with project stakeholders and report on project delivery status.
From time to time, you may be required to provide cover to the PA to the GEC member during periods of absence.
Continually expand your knowledge to stay abreast of relevant industry news best practice and keep your skills sharp so you can apply this to your work and play a pivotal role in the delivery of the strategy and continual improvement across the team.
Essential Criteria
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to have demonstrable experience of having worked for a Technology company or having worked in a company going through significant technical change. You will have experience of providing effective business support to senior leaders and delivering strong operational practices and procedures. This knowledge will help define the operating system for the team and the practical steps needed to achieve this. You’ll have exceptional report writing skills and be proficient in using all Microsoft packages. Experience in general budgeting is required to oversee the team’s operating budget, as well as a broad understanding of supplier management and key people regulatory and certification requirements in relation to the FCA’s Senior Manager Regime. Experience of working within a financial services business, with an understanding of how the different parts of the function & business effectively interact, to drive the strategy forward; both tactically and strategically, will be beneficial.
