Who we are
Vectare is an award-winning education technology company that works with over 250 independent schools, corporate clients and public sector organisations across the UK, providing creative solutions to their transport needs.
We were founded in 2016, which means we're still young, agile and genuinely innovative. We're not a faceless corporation - we're a close-knit team that works to high standards, moves fast, and cares about the people who work with us.
We also believe strongly that a diverse team makes a better business. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, and we particularly encourage candidates currently underrepresented in the transport and technology sectors to apply.
What makes this placement different
We know that the quality of a placement year varies enormously, and that the difference between a transformative experience and a wasted year often comes down to one thing: whether you're treated as a real member of the team, or as someone to be kept busy in the background.
At Vectare, you will be a real member of the team. Our directors will ask for your opinion on high-level business decisions. Your ideas will be heard and, where they're good ones, they'll be implemented. You'll work directly alongside senior leadership in a way that simply isn't possible at a larger company. If you spot something we could be doing better, we'll want to hear it - that culture of open feedback is central to how we operate and how we grow.
You won't be here to shadow someone else. You'll be here to do a job, contribute meaningfully, and leave with a set of skills and experiences you can speak to confidently in any graduate interview.
What you'll be doing
This is a broad, varied role spanning four areas of the business. You won't be siloed into one task -you'll be involved across all of these and develop a genuine understanding of how a fast-growing technology company operates end to end.
Client Services and Stakeholder Engagement
You'll build and maintain relationships with key clients including schools and local authorities, acting as their first point of contact. You'll log, resolve and escalate issues as appropriate, liaise across internal departments to make sure action points are followed through, and keep all stakeholders informed of progress and updates.
Client Mobilisation
When Vectare wins a new client, you'll be part of the team that gets them up and running. You'll support their onboarding to the Vectare platform, train client and subcontractor staff on our software, and coordinate with internal teams to ensure bespoke client requests are delivered and communicated back effectively.
Business Development
You'll visit potential clients and participate in virtual presentations, representing Vectare and making the case for what we offer. You'll contribute ideas that directly influence key development decisions and help shape the direction of the business.
Daily Operations Management
Using Vectare's technology, you'll monitor live bus, coach and minibus services via GPS tracking, proactively identifying delays or disruption and communicating updates to parents, students and schools by email, text and online platforms. You'll handle inbound enquiries by phone and email, monitor service compliance, and ensure the quality of what we deliver is consistently high. This part of the role is fast-paced and dynamic - you'll develop real confidence working under pressure and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
What you'll come away with
By the end of your placement, you will have developed and be able to evidence the following:
Confident stakeholder management and client-facing communication, in person, by phone and in writing. Experience of business development, including client presentations and contributing to commercial decisions. Project coordination skills, managing multiple workstreams and liaising across departments to deliver outcomes. Operational competence in a technology-driven, fast-paced environment. Direct experience of working with and presenting to senior leadership. The option to complete industry-related qualifications during your placement.
These are skills that translate directly into graduate roles across consulting, operations, account management, business development and the public sector.
What we're looking for
No previous experience in transport or technology is required - we'll provide full training and support throughout. What matters more is the kind of person you are.
You'll thrive in this role if you're someone who communicates clearly and confidently across different audiences, works well both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, takes initiative and is comfortable using your own judgement to solve problems, has strong attention to detail and notices when things aren't quite right, stays calm under pressure and adapts well when things change quickly, and is genuinely motivated to make a contribution, not just complete a placement.
How to apply
Send your CV and a cover letter to jobs@vectare.co.uk. In your cover letter, tell us a little about yourself, why this role appeals to you, and what you think you'd bring to the Vectare team.
We look forward to hearing from you.
