The Beckton CHiP plant is designed to have an overall world-leading electrical efficiency of more than 55%, and export up to 17MW of electricity. The plant uses bioliquid fuels classified as renewable and sustainable such as tallow, used cooking oil soya oil and rapeseed oil to power a marine diesel engine. Renewable waste heat from the plant is used in the adjacent gas pressure reduction station owned by Cadent, enabling it to reduce the use of its existing gas heaters and let down the gas pressure for distribution.


The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for a C&I Engineer.

It is the responsibility of the C&I Engineer to work with all members of the CHiP team providing professional engineering support ensuring asset integrity and reliability is maintained in a manner consistent with delivering customer requirements. You’ll deliver engineering and maintenance improvements meeting operational requirements and delivering KPI’s.

You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver planned, unplanned maintenance and overhaul programmes to the site, high & low voltage distribution systems, generating equipment, UPS, batteries, rotating plant, fitted controls & instrumentation.
  • Manage the site DCS & associated alarms.Monitor & change DCS logic; DCS health checks, management of 3rd party contractors in improvement projects, producing monthly alarm review reports targeting nuisance alarms & conducting alarm flood analysis.
  • Ensure the CHiP retains compliant with business, safety and legislative codes and regulatory requirements including but not limited to ATEX/ DSEAR and adherence to IEC 61511 and IEC 61508.
  • Deliver improved plant reliability through adopting structured reliability improvement processes
  • Be active in plant safety schemes providing support & implementing actions. To include: near misses, incidents, investigations, audits, housekeeping and people supervision to px safe working systems standards.
  • Provide technical support to other Beckton CHiP staff, as required delivering technical training and coaching.
  • Deliver projects consistent with px project management procedures, ensuring changes are raised and approved via the px ‘Management of Change’ process. When required, support client managed projects.
  • Develop, implement and champion engineering procedures, instructions, standards, guidance documents. Identify and deliver innovative solutions to engineering & operations opportunities at the Beckton plant.

  • Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

    Minimum Requirements:


    • HNC in controls or instrumentation discipline.
    • Successful contributions in a 24/7 process
    • Experience working cross functionally delivering policies, initiatives & compliance.
    • Experience managing budgets and projects.
    • Knowledge of EC&I methods, materials & equipment used in running plant and DCS or equivalent control systems
