We are a warm, nurturing and friendly setting where children are central to everything we do. We hope to find someone with a broad range of practical skills, including general DIY, building and grounds maintenance, cleaning and site security. Previous caretaking experience is desirable but not essential.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager to make sure that pupils, staff, governors and visitors benefit from a safe, tidy and welcoming environment.

This position is for 20 hours per week, worked across split morning and afternoon shifts. Some flexibility will be required, and exact hours will be agreed at interview.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is hardworking, dependable and committed to taking pride in maintaining and improving our school environment.
  • Has a good range of practical abilities and can complete minor repairs and maintenance tasks to a high standard, including basic plumbing, joinery and general building work.
  • Understands health and safety procedures and requirements, including H.A.S.A.W and C.O.S.H.H, to keep the site, staff, pupils and visitors safe.
  • Can support all aspects of school operations such as access and security, housekeeping, repairs and maintenance, building and contents care, and health and safety (see job description for further detail).
  • Can organise their workload effectively and prioritise tasks when needed.
  • Can work independently, use their initiative and be proactive in identifying and addressing site needs.
  • Has experience supervising staff and can confidently oversee and check the work of external contractors.
  • Can communicate positively and professionally with colleagues, parents, pupils and the wider community, contributing to the caring ethos of the school.
  • Is flexible and able to respond to emergencies outside normal hours, and willing to support maintenance projects during school holidays, including occasional evening duties such as school events or parents’ evenings.
  • Can undertake a wide range of physical tasks, including lifting, carrying and working at height.
  • Is open to relevant training to help them fulfil the role effectively.

  • In return, we can offer you:

    • A welcoming, family-centred and inclusive school community.
    • A highly supportive and enthusiastic SLT and staff team.
    • A school with high aspirations for all its children.
    • A caring environment that always strives to offer the best for its pupils.
    • A pleasant, well-resourced and inviting working environment.
    • Good opportunities for professional development.
    • Supportive parents and governors.
