Description

Nigel Wright Group is delighted to have been retained, by a PE backed SME manufacturing business in the defence sector. The company is fast growing and has plans to double in size during the current investment cycle. This is a tremendously exciting and rare opportunity, for an exceptional strategic leader, to assume a critical board level position and to both shape and drive the commercial strategy. The role will require 2-3 days per week at the South Wales HQ


Package: A highly competitive basic + bonus, commensurate with a board level role, plus a lucrative equity incentivisation.


Role Profile:


  • Revenue diversification: new programs, new customers, new sectors.
  • Professionalise marketing: ID customer personas, articulate value proposition, translate to collateral (website, brochures).
  • Revenue & pipeline reporting: construct, formalise, and manage a structured revenue & customer pipeline with consistency, transparency, and accountability.
  • Feedback‑loop integration: act as the “eyes and ears” of the market for engineering/product/SLT.
  • Account management:
  • Standardise RFP responses to increase win‑rate
  • Increase speed‑to‑bid
  • Proactive customer contact mapping
  • Mitigate tasks that “slip past the radar.”
  • Own the top‑line of the P&L: be a co‑face of the business to customers, prospects and industry.

  • Person Specification:


    • Experience of new customer development and increasing / maximising of opportunities through existing customers in the defence sector.
    • Route to market experience selling into defence prime contractors and OEMs.
    • Can be based anywhere in the UK. Must be comfortable, spending 2-3 days per week at the HQ in South Wales.
    • Strong at people leadership and market interaction, with the ability to implement effective new systems and processes to help drive commercial performance.
    • Comfortable leading a relatively small team where the remit will fluctuate between operational and strategic.
