Job Overview

This post is Fixed term/ Secondment until 11.10.2026 due to maternity cover.

The Children's Neurodevelopmental Service is a 0 - 18 service that works across Gwynedd and Anglesey local authorities.

We are a multi-disciplinary team of professionals from a variety of background's who offer comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments as well as medication and support to children and young people diagnosed with ADHD.

Applicants should be registered professionals such a nurse, social worker, clinical psychologist, occupational therapist or speech and language therapist, and have a valid registration with an appropriate professional body. Applicants should also demonstrate experience in working with children and young people with neurodevelopment conditions (ASD and / or ADHD) and with children and families.

Full training and supervision will be provided to ensure that the successful applicant becomes familiar with the assessment tools, and processes, used within the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To work within a multi-disciplinary service completing neurodevelopment assessments for children and young people. Contributing to the internal assessment meetings and to the development and improvement of service delivery.

Providing support, advice and guidance to parents and carers of children and young people with neurodevelopment conditions.

Providing clinical and managerial support for junior colleagues

Undertaking awareness raising and training to external agencies and internal service and professional's where required.

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • NMC Registered Nurse or other professional such as S&LT, OT or Social Worker with relevant post registration experience in relation to children with Neurodevelopmental difficulties and needs
  • Post graduate diploma (or equivalent level of study in several areas related to post)

Desirable criteria

  • Any additional relevant formal training within the area of children’s neurodevelopmental conditions

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant post registration experience in a relevant role
  • Management and support of more junior staff

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental conditions and their carers / families

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the range, nature and impact of neurodevelopmental conditions and associated difficultie
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of commonly associated health needs e.g. epilepsy, autism, syndromes and their health impacts etc.
  • Understanding of behavioural theory and application.
  • Understanding of child development
  • Good knowledge of clinically effective intervention literature / research
  • Thorough knowledge of child protection procedures and child management / engagement techniques in keeping with these e.g. praise, redirection
  • Sound understanding of clinical governance, audit and the importance of research and development

Desirable criteria

  • Detailed knowledge of an area common to learning disabilities services e.g. epilepsy, PMLD, Applied Behavioural Analysis principles
