Principal Infrastructure Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to join a large, multi-disciplinary consultant out of their Wigan office, working on and managing a range of sectors/projects


The Role

As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will take a leading role in the delivery of infrastructure design projects, ensuring technical excellence, commercial awareness, and effective team coordination.

You will be responsible for managing multiple schemes simultaneously, providing strategic technical direction, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and approving authorities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, lead, and deliver infrastructure designs for multiple projects on time and within budget.
  • Negotiate technical approvals for adoptable works (S104, S38, S278 agreements)
  • Oversee highway and drainage strategies, ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Maintain effective communication with the internal design team, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers where appropriate.

  • Qualifications & Experience

    • 5–10+ years’ experience in a similar role within a consultancy environment.
    • Degree or HNC qualified in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
    • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Highway design and ground modelling
    • Drainage design and hydraulic modelling, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
    • External works levels design


    Ideally, you’ll have experience with software packages such as AutoCAD, PDS, Civil3D, MicroDrainage or Flow.
