Job Overview

Applications are invited for the above post in the Emergency Department based at Glan Clwyd Hospital. This post will involve ward duties with a contribution to out of hours shifts in the Acute Medical Unit and the Emergency Department. The post holder will be supported in their professional development and will gain excellent clinical experience.

Main duties of the job

This post is based at the Glan Clwyd Hospital, which is one of the 3 sites of the Health Board.

With approximately 58,000 attendances per year, our department has a workload to keep you interested and challenged, but still give you time to talk to your patients properly, whilst delivering excellent patient care. We are also a Trauma Unit practicing ETC models of trauma care and take an active role in the Trauma Network. The department is staffed with a mixture of Consultants, SAS Doctors (24/7 Tier 2 rota in operation) and juniors. In addition there is a strong nursing team including an evolving team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

Essential criteria

  • MBBS
  • No specialist exam required

Eligibility

Essential Criteria

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Fitness to Practice and Health

Essential Criteria

  • Is up to date and fit to practice safely
  • Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice)

Language Skills

Essential criteria

  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by either havig done Medical Training in English or passed IELTS

Career progression and courses

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to provide a complete employment history
  • Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
  • Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
  • At least 12 months experience at FY1 and FY2 level

  • Desirable criteria

    • Evidence of experience in emergency medicine, acute medicine or surgery
    • Successful completion of 1 of the 3 UK advanced life support provider training courses (ALS, ATLS and APLS) or equivalent courses

    • Understands the importance of audit to the specialty
