Location: Birmingham, Exeter, Leeds, Manchester, Winchester

Hybrid working

This is a newly created role within the Governance and Risk Team.

This role is primarily responsible for reviewing, advising, negotiating, and concluding commercial contracts which the firm is entering into with both clients and suppliers of goods and services to the firm. This role will report into the Director of Governance and Risk and work closely with key stakeholders across the firm at all levels including both Legal divisions and Business Services’ teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising colleagues across the business, adopting a commercial and pragmatic approach in relation to commercial contract considerations to include reviewing, advising and where appropriate supporting the negotiation of and amendments to commercial contracts relating to:
  • Client terms
  • Framework Agreements
  • Outside Counsel Agreements
  • Client bids/RfPs
  • Panel arrangements
  • Goods and services procured on behalf of the firm.
  • Assisting with ongoing contract management to ensure that all contractual obligations for key clients and suppliers are incorporated into our wider processes to ensure compliance with those terms.
  • Reviewing requests for amendments and preparing risk summaries to contracts and draft contracts received from suppliers, to assist with the review, assessment and acceptance of such terms.
  • Providing in-house legal input to ad-hoc firm projects as well as assisting with reviewing and updating the firm's standard terms of business, client care letters, templates, internal policies and processes.
  • Keeping up to date with legal developments and considering if amendments to the firm's Terms of Business are necessary.
  • Assisting in developing the procurement framework for the firm.
  • Providing training to the Governance and Risk Analysts to enable them to assist with contract reviews.
  • Opportunities for involvement in wider Governance and Risk projects.

  • Skills And Experience

    • Strong drafting skills.
    • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
    • The ability to plan, organise and work efficiently in order to meet client and business needs.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with others across the firm.
    • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to solve problems pragmatically.
    • Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team.

    Experience

    • Prior experience as a practicing commercial contracts lawyer.
    • Previous experience working within a risk and compliance team within a law firm would be beneficial but is not essential.
