BAM UK & Ireland are seeking a Commercial Education Lead to join our Education Sector team within Clients & Markets, supporting the successful delivery of our national education portfolio.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial professional who wants to influence strategy, champion best practice, and support regional teams in shaping the future of education delivery.

Making Possible
Mobilisation
• Negotiate favourable commercial terms with consultants, including optimised payment schedules.
• Influence playbook designs and material specifications to support tender cost plans.
• Develop legal, commercial, and procurement tools including frameworks, derogation libraries, and KPI linked subcontract agreements.
• Deliver commercial presentations and produce standardised commercial templates and cost plans.
• Support development of national and local supply chains and maximise use of BAM’s “kit of parts.”
Framework Responsibilities
• Act as the commercial lead for key education framework engagements.
• Resolve escalated commercial disputes and drive consistency across tender submissions.
• Ensure robust governance, training on commercial processes, and compliant approval pathways.
• Attend regular commercial framework meetings as required.
• Support and deputise for the Framework Manager when needed.
General Commercial Support
• Collaborate with Sector Director, Client Director, Framework Manager, Design and Digital teams.
• Review supporting documents for commercial implications.
• Issue price indices and provide governance information to regions.
• Collate benchmarking data and support day to day commercial queries.
• Lead commercial feedback mechanisms nationally.
Core Commercial Manager Responsibilities
• Lead all commercial aspects of education tenders to protect BAM’s commercial position.
• Support pricing submissions and commercial quality responses.
• Drive commercial performance across the Education Sector.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
• Manage governance processes including Stage Gate, Tender Desk, and BAM Baseline.
• Prepare and manage the annual Operating Expenditure budget

Working closely with the Education Sector Director, you will play a pivotal role across preconstruction activities and support regions in tendering and framework compliance

What do you bring to the role?
• Proven experience as a Commercial Manager within pre construction or framework led environments.
• Strong understanding of contractual, commercial, insurance and legal processes.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage multi disciplinary teams.
• Experience working in the Education Sector (desirable).
• Strong negotiation, analytical and communication skills.
• Familiarity with common forms of construction contracts.
• Commercially astute with ability to make informed decisions.
• Strong understanding of performance measurement, risk/opportunity management and change control.
