Pay And Benefits

  • A minimum starting salary of £54,090 pa, increasing with authorisations + Company Car.

  • 37 hours Mon – Fri typically 8am – 4 pm.

Role Overview

If you are already an SAP and or Commissioning authorised great, if not this role initially is all about training to start with. You’ll join one of our teams, where you will spend the first 24 - 30 months on a training programme gaining experience on-site and, in the classroom, (with short stays away from home) building your skill base and safety authorisations needed to take the next big step.

As a Commissioning Engineer you will continuously strive to improve the transmission network by applying your experience and knowledge of the existing technologies which underpin it, s
uch as, GIS switchgear and future SF6 replacement technology solutions in all their variations, HV equipment such as complex cable systems, transformers and compensation equipment, HVDC systems along with protection and control, but not just existing technologies, it’s also a great opportunity to be part of the transition and implementation of new technologies to transform the grid, such as, hydrogen, solar, wind, AI and digitalisation, in order to play an integral role in the energy transition.

Day to day activities include commissioning new assets on to the system, partnering with designers and suppliers on solutions for modernising our assets, developing new projects. The types of projects you will be involved with are - new build substations, cable extensions and replacements, routine single asset replacement, substation extensions and new customer connections. And don’t forget the existing network requiring maintenance and also leading on fault response when things go wrong.

Requirements

  • Min Level 4/HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • You have knowledge of commissioning HV equipment, Protection & Control Equipment in an Electricity Transmission environment and technically proficient in power systems theory.
  • You’ll be organised with excellent attention to detail and communication skills, can demonstrate experience of site supervisory or management and delivery of projects.
  • Have an excellent understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation, practices and policies,
  • Hold a current Full UK driving licence.
  • Can commit to a standby rota for emergency call outs, due to this you will need to live within roughly 1 hour commute of your approved base location.

  • Desirable

    • You have significant experience in commissioning HV equipment, Protection & Control Equipment and technically proficient in power systems theory, ideally you will have held a senior authorisation.
    • BP141 authorisation
    • Senior Authorised Person
    • NEBOSH.
