Consultant Psychiatrist - Older Adult Inpatient

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Older Adult Mental Health Services, providing clinical leadership for Tissington Ward, an 18-bedded functional older adult inpatient ward based at Kingsway Hospital, Derby. This full-time 10 PA post offers the opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality care for older adults with complex mental health needs. The successful candidate will act as Responsible Clinician for functional inpatients, contribute to service development and clinical governance, and work closely with colleagues across inpatient, crisis, community and liaison services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and collaborative older adult service within Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, with strong peer support, CPD, teaching, leadership and research opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

• MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
• Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.

Eligibility

Essential

• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable

• Dual accreditation or additional Endorsements

Clinical skills, knowledge & experience

Essential

• Excellent knowledge of the specialty
• Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
• Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
• Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
• Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

Desirable

• Evidence of additional experience or expertise in risk and suicidal behaviours

Academic skills & lifelong learning

Essential

• Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
• Participated in continuous professional development

Desirable

• Evidence of being able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
• Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
