Description

Connect to your Industry

Deloitte has a longstanding reputation of expertise in the field of UK domestic and international pensions taxation.

The Employment Tax Pensions team is an integral, rapidly growing part of Deloitte’s wider Employment Taxes practice, with an impressive reputation in the market and a broad client base that includes public sector organisations, major international banks, FTSE 100 and private companies, pension trustees and high net worth individuals.

We are offering a unique opportunity to work in this stimulating tax technical environment as part of an exceptional and supportive team advising this prestigious client portfolio.

This innovative and dynamic team – which is the largest specialist pensions tax team of the Big 4 – has experienced very strong year-on-year growth and has significant potential and aspirations for further growth. This means that there is ample room for career development and progression, and we will provide you with the tools to reach your full potential, with no barriers.

We are looking for consultants to join our team and support our work in advising clients on a broad range of UK and overseas tax issues. You will be exposed to a wide variety of UK taxes (including income tax, social security, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and withholding taxes) as well as supporting clients in implementing best practice risk, operational and governance structures in the domestic and international arena.

Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.

Connect to your opportunity

This role is diverse, providing you with experience of advising a broad range of clients on highly specialist, pensions, tax, design, risk, governance and operational matters. You would be an integral member of the client teams, encouraged from an early stage to create and enhance your own client relationships and develop more junior team members. You will benefit from the full support of the senior team, comprising one partner, one director and four associate directors, all focused on your development and progression within the team. You will have the fantastic opportunity of working directly with this senior team to develop your own talents whilst working closely with an amazing client base.

In this team, your role in the group would encompass some or all of the following:

  • Providing bespoke pensions tax technical advice to corporate clients, pension trustees and high net worth individuals on the following:
  • Pension funding
  • Post funding transactions in pension schemes
  • Longer term inheritance tax planning
  • Extraction of retirement benefits on retirement or death
  • Advising multi-national clients in understanding the complex tax, risk, governance and operational implications associated with their international pension plans.
  • Assisting multi-national clients in coordinating large scale reviews to ensure their UK domestic pension plans are operated in a compliant and tax effective manner and further, supporting these clients with remediation aspects as needed, working closely with our legal and tax disputes teams.
  • Advising senior executives on the pensions tax aspects of their retirement planning, taking account of their specific retirement location and their historic working patterns.
  • Designing, building and implementing global pension plans for employers with multi-jurisdictional workforces, assisting with all aspects of tax, design structuring and communications.
  • Working with Deloitte offices and clients globally to support local retirement and long term savings plan requirements in emerging markets, such as the Middle East.
  • Managing diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people from a wide variety of professional backgrounds are recognised for their contribution.

  • Connect to your skills and professional experience

    Someone who has an ability to deal effectively and establish rapport with people at all levels. You'll bring out the best in others and be a brilliant listener. You'll grow our business without compromising standards, integrity or culture.

    In particular, we will ask for the following from you:

    • Strong UK tax technical capabilities, with clear examples of an ability to read, understand and translate tax rules and case law into plain English for our clients. This role might usually suit someone with an employment tax, mobility or private client background;
  • Highly numerate with keen attention to detail;
  • Willingness to learn and develop new ideas and broaden out into new technical areas and consulting spaces;
  • Ability to build strong inter-personal relationships;
  • Business acumen and commercial awareness;
  • Ability to communicate with other professional advisers such as pension scheme trustees, as well as explaining complicated messages in a simple fashion;
  • Ability to produce high quality, client facing, technically accurate and well-written work;
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to take ownership and use initiative to resolve problems.

  • Connect to your business - Tax

    Innovation and tax consultancy may not seem to go together, but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Deloitte. We’re constantly seeking the new and working together to push the limits of what’s possible. Discover a new kind of tax career that you can make your own.

    Global Employer Services (GES)

Our clients range from high-net-worth individuals and highly ambitious start-ups to a large number of FTSE 100 and 250 companies, with significant global footprints.

    Personal independence

    Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm). The recruitment team will provide further detail as you progress through the recruitment process or you can contact the Independence team upon request.
