Continuous Water Quality Monitoring Director

We are seeking a senior leader to build and direct Galliford Try’s UK ‑ wide Continuous Water Quality Monitoring (CWQM) business under Section 82 of the Environment Act 2021. This represents the largest single opportunity in our Water Technologies portfolio and will impact thousands of sites nationally.
You will lead strategy, develop client and partner relationships, and oversee the design, integration, and deployment of monitoring technologies, data platforms, maintenance models, and reporting frameworks. You’ll play a pivotal role in helping clients meet regulatory obligations while unlocking value through efficiency, resilience, and data ‑ driven insight.

You will lead strategy, develop client and partner relationships, and oversee the design, integration, and deployment of monitoring technologies, data platforms, maintenance models, and reporting frameworks. You’ll play a pivotal role in helping clients meet regulatory obligations while unlocking value through efficiency, resilience, and data ‑ driven insight.
What you'll be doing:
Vision & Strategy
- Shape and deliver the UK ‑ wide CWQM strategy.
- Drive innovation across sensing, digital platforms, real ‑ time analytics, and AI.
- Develop solutions that create lasting value for clients and the environment.
- Build and inspire multidisciplinary teams.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, high ‑ performance culture.
- Grow future capability and strengthen progression pathways.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, partners, researchers, and regulators.
- Represent Galliford Try across industry forums and working groups.
- Provide clarity and confidence during key programme moments.
- Ensure high ‑ quality installation, performance, data integrity, and compliance across the CWQM portfolio.
- Lead the development of an integrated asset management platform.
- Deliver sustainable commercial outcomes that support long ‑ term growth.
- Oversee secure, real ‑ time data delivery and strong governance.
- Qualification or equivalent experience in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, data science, or related fields.
- Proven leadership experience gained in a process related industry, the municipal water and wastewater sector, or with the Environment Agency. Whilst not essential, a good understanding of statutory water quality requirements/Section 82 CWQM would be ideal.
- Proven delivery of large-scale digital or monitoring infrastructure programmes.
- Knowledge of sensor technologies, telemetry, SCADA, and data analytics systems.
- Excellent stakeholder management, including clients, suppliers/partners, academics, and internal colleagues.
- Robust understanding of health and safety management and risk governance.
- Experience with AI-enabled monitoring and predictive analytics.
- Prior involvement in regulatory or compliance environments.
