Control Systems Engineer (Cyber Security Lead)

Elgin

Permanent

Closing Date: 22nd March 2026

This is a role for someone who loves bringing clarity, confidence and cyber‑secure thinking to sophisticated operational environments. As our Engineer specializing in Control Systems with a Cyber Security focus, you will strengthen Diageo’s Operational Technology resilience across our Malt Distilling sites in Scotland.

This role comes with a competitive salary, and additional attractive Diageo benefits, such as private medical care, bonus incentives, product allowance, pension plans and more.

About The Role

You’ll guide, coach and uplift teams to build a culture where cyber awareness feels empowering, not intimidating, and where every site feels supported and ready for the future. You will partner closely with operators, site managers, and trusted third‑party integrators. You will develop assured approaches to working, nurture standard methodologies, and champion a joined‑up approach to cyber resilience.

From shaping training and standards, to coordinating emergency response, and providing calm, expert leadership when it matters most, you will be the steady, supportive presence that keeps our operations not just moving, but thriving. If you love combining technical depth with people-focused influence, this role gives you the space to make a real and lasting impact.

Key Accountabilities Include

  • Lead and embed Operational Technology Cyber Security standards across operational sites, driving compliance, governance and knowledge uplift.
  • Partner with Site Managers, Operators and Integrators to coordinate cyber‑secure maintenance planning, ensuring SAP‑PM tasks, PPMs and resource needs are fully aligned to production schedules.
  • Provide expert incident and emergency coordination as the SME, ensuring swift response to any blocking issue and effective 24/7 support.
  • Collaborate with third‑party integrators to ensure assured methods of operation, strong alignment to Diageo standards and continuous improvement across hardware, software and processes.
  • Analyse data and Cyber Security benchmarks to build improvements, improve risk assessments and drive performance across your sites.
  • Support team development and training plans, coaching colleagues and building confidence in cyber‑secure behaviours.
  • Oversee Management of Change, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery processes, as well as secure remote access and controlled environment requirements for OT equipment.
  • Participate in routine Cyber Security review meetings, bringing data‑driven insight and a collaborative, solutions‑focused approach.

About You

We need a Control Systems professional who lights up in fast‑paced, high‑availability environments, where every system, every connection, and every decision truly matters. Bringing a calm confidence to complexity, blending deep technical insight with a people‑centred approach that makes others feel supported, guided and inspired.

If you're energised by solving problems, influencing decisions, and coaching others to grow, whether that's shaping a cyber‑resilience programme or guiding a project team through change, this might be the next step for you!

You collaborate brilliantly across functions and levels, navigating conversations with engineers, operators, senior leaders and partners alike. You’re thoughtful, inquisitive, and unafraid to challenge at critical moments, always with empathy and clarity.

You’ll Bring

  • Proven depth of knowledge in Cyber Security, Operational Technology systems, and assets, including hardware and network infrastructure.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with capacity to interpret sophisticated systems and data.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence engaging at all levels.
  • The ability to influence, challenge, and coach others to elevate thinking and behaviours.
  • Experience in leading projects, governing delivery, and coordinating cyber‑resilience initiatives
  • Experience of Controls Systems integration with sound knowledge of hardware, software and networking.
  • Ability to integrate with Project Engineers and Capitalised Projects, governing the installation and upgrade on new equipment to ensure compliance with Legislative and Diageo Standards for Operational Technology and Cyber Security.

  • Essential Qualifications

    • A minimum HNC qualification in engineering or equivalent experience.

    Desirable But Not Essential

    • Understanding or experience of ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity for Industry standards and an interest or basic understanding of manufacturing and distilling environments will set you up for success
