Job Title: Crane Engineer (internally known as Engineering Technician Grade A)
Location: Dock Gate 20, Southampton
Salary: £37,533 per annum (for 35 hours basic) plus shift premium and overtime.
Position Type: Permanent, full-time.
Hours of work: 12‑hour shifts (6am–6pm or 6pm–6am) on a rotating two‑week schedule:
Week 1: 3 shifts
Week 2: 4 shifts
This rota includes day and night shifts, as well as weekend working.
This role is a Safety Critical position.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Manage, maintain and carryout all designated engineering activities which include Rail Mounted Gantry cranes and plant equipment. Ensuring that business requirements are met, and operational availability of assets are fully maximized.
- Organize and carry out the company’s program of engineering examinations, maintenance events, fault finding, diagnostic checking and repairs of company assess in accordance with the company’s maintenance instructions and procedures.
- Update and maintain accurate and comprehensive records of maintenance, defect and repair information.
- Fully utilize Freightliner IT systems relevant to the scope of your work.
- Participate in the training and development of new recruits and apprentices.
- Work flexibly within skillset, training and competencies with no job restrictions and give assistance with tasks as directed.
- The role is a 30/70 split, predominantly electrical.
- A qualification and experience from an electrical apprenticeship or NVQ3 equivalent.
- Must have a DC motor and ABB drives experience.
- Must have PCL experience – Siemens S7, CODESYE.
