We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Engineer to be responsible for the implementation and delivery of data migration and data archival solutions on our AWS-based data platform.

This role will support the definition of archival strategy, patterns, and design, working closely with Data Architecture, Security, and Project Management stakeholders, while taking full ownership of the engineering delivery. The focus is on building, executing, and assuring migration and archival solutions that ensure data accuracy, security, availability, and compliance throughout the data lifecycle. Strong technical leadership, delivery ownership, and the ability to operate effectively within a matrix delivery structure will be critical.

Key Responsibilities

Data Migration/Archival Implementation & Delivery

  • Support migration and archive strategy, patterns, and solution design, providing engineering input and feasibility feedback
  • Own the implementation of data archival solutions, ensuring alignment with agreed retention, compliance, and availability objectives
  • Build and maintain processes covering data movement and storage, access and retrieval mechanisms, integrity checking and validation
  • Ensure archived data remains secure, discoverable, recoverable, and auditable
  • Produce and maintain runbooks, documentation, and operational handover materials


Technical Leadership & Engineering Standards

  • Act as the engineering authority for migration and archival delivery, ensuring solutions meet agreed designs and standards
  • Implement and uphold best practices for:
  • Data lifecycle management
  • Migration and archival automation
  • Data quality, reconciliation, and auditability
  • Identify and escalate technical risks, issues, and dependencies early, proposing pragmatic mitigation approaches


Data Platform Engineering

  • Build and operate solutions on an AWS-based data platform, using cloud-native and managed data engineering services
  • Apply infrastructure-as-code, automated deployment, and environment management practices
  • Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective, aligned with enterprise architecture and security standards


Stakeholder & Delivery Management

  • Work effectively within a matrix delivery environment, collaborating with Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Project Delivery teams
  • Translate business, regulatory, and architectural requirements into practical engineering solutions
  • Manage delivery milestones, technical dependencies, and risks for migration and archival initiatives
  • Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering data migration and data archival implementations in complex or enterprise environments with regulated or sensitive data
  • Strong experience with AWS-based data platforms and cloud data engineering stacks
  • Solid understanding of data lifecycle management, including retention, retrieval, and platform decommissioning
  • Advanced proficiency in Python (data processing, automation, orchestration), SQL (data profiling, reconciliation, validation) and Terraform (infrastructure as code and environment management) and Git
  • Strong understanding of data quality and reconciliation techniques, secure data handling and retention policies, migration and archival delivery risks


  • Desirable Experience

    • Exposure to modern cloud data architectures (e.g. Lakehouse, serverless, event-driven platforms)
    • Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and operational monitoring for data workloads
    • Experience working in large, complex, or regulated organisations

    • Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on data integrity and assurance
    • Confident communicator, able to explain technical risks and constraints clearly
  • Pragmatic and solution-focused when working with legacy data and systems
  • Comfortable operating within ambiguity and matrix team structures
