Description
THE TEAM

JSM Group’s Power Division delivers complex, high-voltage utility infrastructure projects across the UK. Our team is built on a foundation of safety, collaboration, and technical excellence, working across frameworks that shape the future of the power sector. As we grow, we are looking for a dedicated Project Manager – Power to lead delivery across major civil and cable installation schemes, typically up to 132kV and occasionally at 275kV and 400kV.

SCOPE OF ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Power, this role exists to bring structure, leadership, and technical authority to the critical design to delivery transition across high-value HV infrastructure projects (typically £5m+).

You will lead the coordination of the electrical design lifecycle (11kV–132kV minimum), manage DNO/IDNO and client interfaces, accelerate procurement of long-lead equipment, and provide technical leadership to a team of Project Managers.

This is not a pure design role and not a purely commercial role.

It is a delivery leadership role requiring immediate operational credibility.

How You’ll Succeed

Design & Approval Process Leadership

  • Lead structured handover from Estimating to Delivery following project award
  • Oversee the full HV design lifecycle from grid application to IFC (Issued For Construction)
  • Manage DNO/IDNO approvals and client-side sign-offs
  • Identify and mitigate design risk early to protect the programme and cost
  • Translate technical issues into commercial and programme impact

Commercial & Procurement Enablement

  • Understand procurement cycles for major OEMs (e.g. switchgear manufacturers)
  • Recognise and manage 9–12 month lead time risks
  • Drive early supplier engagement and order placement
  • Support NEC/JCT commercial strategy at a high level
  • Think in terms of programme risk and cash flow impact — not just drawing

Leadership & Interface Management

  • Lead and manage a team of Electrical Project Managers
  • Provide technical oversight, mentoring and performance accountability
  • Act as a senior interface between:

Internal PM teams

Design consultants

DNO/IDNO engineers

Hyperscale / industrial client engineers

  • Stabilise complex or high-pressure project environments
  • Implement structured handover and delivery processes

  • Safety, Compliance & Governance

    • Ensure compliance with current legislation, DNO specifications and client standards
    • Uphold JSM policies, procedures and Vision & Values
    • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all managed projects

    Experience

    WHAT IT TAKES

    • 3–5 years' experience in a similar management role within the power or utilities industry
    • Proven leadership of site teams in live project environments
    • Strong record of delivering against programme, safety, and commercial targets
    • Understanding of contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT, ICC) and experience on fixed-price or cost-plus projects
    • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and project planning tools (MS Project or Primavera)
    • Experienced in file management, audits, and compliance reporting

    Skills & Attribute

    • Confident, proactive leader with excellent people management skills
    • Commercially aware and technically competent in power engineering
    • Strong planning, organisation, and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy in documentation and reporting
  • Comfortable managing multiple workstreams under pressure
  • Able to deliver safety briefings and performance feedback clearly and confidently
  • Professional, respectful, and driven to uphold company values

  • Qualifications

    • SMSTS (CITB or equivalent)
    • EUSR (Power)
    • HSG47 awareness
    • BESC / PERSONS (National Grid competencies preferred)
    • Temporary Works Supervisor
    • NRSWA Supervisor
    • First Aid & Fire Marshal
    • Full UK driving licence

    What We Offer You

We truly value your work, time, and skills! In return, we will offer you a competitive salary and some additional benefits to support your professional growth, including:

    • Participation in mentoring and coaching programmes
    • 28 days of holiday (excluding bank holidays)
    • 2 paid volunteering days a year
    • Hybrid working pattern
    • Continuous training and development, in both technical and business skills
