Description
At Amegreen Children’s Services we provide therapeutic residential care for children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs in warm, nurturing homes across rural West Berkshire and Hampshire. Our teams use a trauma-informed, PACE-based approach to help young people feel safe, understood and able to grow, supported by strong clinical input and a warm, reflective staff culture.

Why you’ll love this role

  • Real impact, every shift - you’ll see the difference you make in children’s confidence, relationships and everyday wins.
  • A genuine step up - ideal if you’re ready to build your leadership experience and work towards a future Registered Manager role.
  • Supportive, therapeutic culture - work with a stable team, trauma-informed approach and regular reflective supervision.
  • Beautiful rural setting - peaceful countryside homes with space for children (and staff) to breathe, play and reset.

Working alongside the Registered Manager, you will:

  • Lead and supervise staff on shift, including a minimum of 2 sleep-ins per week
  • Support the day-to-day running of the home and ensure safe staffing and robust cover
  • Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children and young people at all times
  • Deputise in the Registered Manager’s absence, including during Ofsted inspections
  • Provide on-call support and make confident decisions around casework, risk and safeguarding
  • Support staff development through supervision, coaching and appraisals
  • Build strong working relationships with families, professionals and partner agencies

  • You will be a visible, hands-on leader, modelling good practice and helping to create a stable, caring and structured environment.

We are looking for someone who is confident, resilient and passionate about making a difference.

    Essential:

    • Experience in children’s residential care (minimum 2 years)
    • Leadership or staff supervision experience (minimum 1 year)
    • Strong understanding of child development and supporting young people with additional needs
    • Excellent communication and organisational skills
    • Flexibility to work shifts, sleep-ins and take part in the on-call rota
    • Full UK driving licence and access to a car
    • Be eligible to work in the UK without employer sponsorship

You will be calm under pressure, able to think clearly in challenging situations and committed to high standards of care and safeguarding.

    Why work for Amegreen?

We know this is a demanding role, so we work hard to look after our team too. As a Deputy Manager, you will benefit from:

    • Health cash plan (Health Shield) + EAP 24/7 support (after probation/eligibility applies)
    • Training and development - induction and mandatory training, plus CPD, therapeutic support and further qualifications
    • Free holiday accommodation - company holiday home on Hayling Island (subject to availability)
    • Discounts - Blue Light Card (card cost refunded) + local partner discounts

  • You will join a committed, supportive team where your ideas are valued and there are real opportunities to grow and progress.
