Job Overview

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Deputy Ward Manager with a specialist interest in stroke care to join the Ward 11 Acute Stroke Unit.

As an experienced nurse, you will work both clinically as a member of the nursing team providing clinical advise, expertise and leadership to all staff and in partnership with the ward managers. Applicants need to have a sound knowledge of clinical, leadership and managerial skills. Be able to demonstrate the ability to lead as well as work within a team: to supervise, nurture and develop the knowledge and skills of staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To support the Ward Manager in the day-to-day management of the ward. To take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager which includes staffing issues. To ensure the ward runs efficiently.

Act as key worker for a group of clients which involves assessing, planning and implementing of care. Planned one to ones dealing with sensitive and complicated information.

To manage all nursing resources in the absence of the Ward Manager, through organisation and prioritisation of work needs. Authorisation of bank staff.

To promote effective working relationships on the ward and within the unit by working collaboratively with other team members.

To demonstrate appropriate effective interventions including management of aggression, manual handling and administration of medication.

To provide support to staff and take a lead role in personal development review, management supervision and clinical supervision.

To provide support to staff and take a lead role in risk assessments.
