Design Project Manager – Heat Exports – Temporary Contract

Overview to role This is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact in a high profile area of data center sustainability with the market-leading Equinix Heat Export Programme. The Programme has yielded several project opportunities which now requires resource to help convert these opportunities into live projects and scale the Programme. The role will involve working closely with the Heat Export Senior Manager to achi

eves objective of delivering at least 5 contracted heat projects in 2026 and developing pipeline of new project opportunities to ensure Equinix maintains its position as a sustainability leader in heat export. Reporting to the Heat Export Senior Manager, the main activities will involve tracking and programme managing multiple heat export projects mainly in the EMEA region by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders across disciplines. Key internal stakeholders likely to be design managers/ project leads on individual projects who will be carrying out the day to day work on developing heat export projects in different countries/ cities. Key external stakeholders likely to be heat network operators. This role will suit someone who enjoys working with people, is passionate about sustainability, organised, can work with uncertainty and is willing to use their initiative.


Summary of Scope of Work:

  • Managing heat export projects in different countries in EMEA region (mainly UK, Sweden, France, Poland, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain)
  • Manage project plans agreed with the Heat Export Lead
  • Adjusting, updating and aligning plans for sites where a heat export partner has been identified in conjunction with key stakeholders
  • Collaborating with internal and external teams to anticipate and manage risk to achieving project plan objectives
  • Projects will cover new build and retrofit data center sites Track new build design projects in regions in EMEA suitable for heat export from early due diligence/ site selection through project stages
  • Weekly check in with masterplanning team and review of masterplanning tracker to identify and track project progress
  • Informing Heat Export Lead of new sites as they emerge so that heat export potential can be assessed
  • This is to ensure opportunities to inform develop heat export projects are identified early and to influence the data center design accordingly as early as possible in the design process. Coordination and administration
  • Arranging meetings, sharing meeting actions post meeting and following up on actions in between meetings to ensure project plan objectives are met
  • Setting up internal project governance meetings in line with heat export governance process with input from Project lead and Heat Export lead
  • Attending meetings with Heat Export Senior Manager progressing towards arranging and attending meetings without Heat Export Senior Manager where appropriate
  • Signposting heat export project leads to tools and templates to support them to progress heat export projects in their metros Keeping heat export project tracker up to date for projects
  • Capturing and maintaining key information from project leads at least every month for each project where a partner has been identified (Next steps, status of discussions with heat export partners)
  • Capturing and maintaining key information for projects from early development stages (due diligence / masterplanning) through subsequent design stages Support heat export lead in preparation of quarterly heat export business update report in Powerpoint
  • Preparation of slides using information from heat export project tracker plus additional content provided by Heat Export Lead Weekly check-ins with Heat export lead
  • Discuss new projects identified, status of project plans, risks, opportunities proposed mitigations

  • Level of Experience:

    Essential:

    • 2 years of experience in technical design management or related field
    • Experience in managing client or partner relationships
    • Comfortable engaging and managing multiple stakeholders across different disciplines and levels


    Desirable

    • 5 – 10 years experience
    • Business development experience
    • Project management training/ experience
