Design Team Manager
Norwich - hybrid
Permanent Contract - 37 hours per week
£56,912 to £62,618 per annum
We are looking for an innovative, driven and experienced manager who will lead one of the Council’s three highway design teams, during what is an exciting and sustained period of infrastructure investment within Norfolk.
About us
Norfolk County Council has an excellent record of securing additional funding, and over the next few years the highways capital programme will be delivering a significant amount of infrastructure improvements across Norfolk.
The role
You will play a key role in delivering many exciting and innovative infrastructure schemes. The highway design team are responsible for the design and delivery of highway structural maintenance and improvement projects, management of associated resources, contracts, health & safety, and risks.
You will have a vital role in managing a team of design engineers and technicians, ensuring effective risk management by acting as a Principal Designer under the CDM 2015 Regulations, and that highway projects are delivered efficiently and safely. The role also involves close working with the Council’s works contractor and professional services provider, who is integrated within your team.
As well as providing leadership, vision and direction to the team, you will report to the Head of Design and Development, directly contributing towards the delivery of exciting highways and transport infrastructure schemes across the county.
Our ideal candidate
Ideally you will be an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with a proven track record in leading a technical team and infrastructure delivery. As well as being able to demonstrate technical and managerial competencies, you will need to be flexible and adaptable, and be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including politicians, all tiers of local government and other public and private sector organisations.
Professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, teamworking skills and being able to multi-task over a range of activities are also essential qualities.
