  • Job Description

    The salary for this role is £43,702 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

    This role can be based at any of the following sites; Culham, Oxfordshire

    This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

    The Role

    Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As Electrical Technician

    you will be assisting the Plant Responsible Officers who are looking after the major complex machine control and protection systems for the MAST-U Tokamak. Additionally, an experienced job holder in this role is expected to be a Responsible Officer for small pieces of plant under the main responsible officer. You will be undertaking fault-finding activities on the electrical and C&I systems for the machine control & protection group (MCP), managing small to medium work packages, minor installation/modification tasks, technical studies, preparing plant documentation, assisting with training on the plant and undertaking plant related work packages and technical studies for the MCP group related MAST activities.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Managing and delivering small to medium work packages with the departments engineers and technicians to design, install and commission electrical and C&I systems.
    • Preparing work control documentation for plant related activities and supervising electricians/fitters and technicians that are undertaking the work.
    • Undertaking fault-finding activities on MCP & Diagnostic plant, at system and subsystem levels (often with limited information), in a safe and effective manner ensuring relevant work control procedures are followed.
  • Guiding minor plant installation/modification tasks including supervision of technicians and electricians/fitters as required.
  • Seeking to minimise the number of plant faults by proposing improvements that increase reliability and performance.

  • Qualifications

    Essential Requirements:

    • HND in an Electrical discipline, or equivalent with significant industrial experience.
    • BS7671 18th Edition.
    • Significant work experience as an electrical technician/electrician in an industrial/commercial environment.

    Desirable Requirements:

    • City & Guilds Safe Isolation and Testing.
    • City & Guilds Fault Diagnosis and Rectification.
    • City & guild Working Effectively and Safely in Electrical Environment.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of electrical maintenance techniques and industry best-practice.
