Description
Role: Embedded Engineer
Type: Contract
Location: London, UK
Job Description:
- Develop and maintain Linux kernel modules and device drivers
- Work on board support packages (BSP) for embedded platforms
- Debug and optimize kernel performance, memory usage, and boot time
- Interface with hardware components (I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, PCIe, etc.)
- Port Linux to new hardware platforms
- Analyze kernel logs and troubleshoot system-level issues
- Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams for system integration
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented C/C++ code
- Perform code reviews, testing, and validation
Required Skills
- Strong programming skills in C and C++
- Hands-on experience with Linux kernel development
- Experience writing device drivers
- Understanding of operating system concepts (processes, scheduling, memory management)
- Familiarity with embedded systems architecture (ARM, x86, RISC-V)
- Experience with debugging tools (GDB, strace, perf, ftrace)
- Knowledge of cross-compilation toolchains
- Experience with version control systems like Git
Preferred
- Experience with Yocto, Buildroot, or OpenWrt
- Knowledge of real-time systems (RTOS or PREEMPT_RT)
- Familiarity with bootloaders (U-Boot)
- Exposure to networking stacks or multimedia frameworks
- Experience in power management and optimization
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field
- Relevant experience in embedded Linux development
