We have an exciting opportunity for an Employment Officer to join Southampton City Council’s Employment Support Team. We work with residents on a one-to-one basis, supporting them to find and retain sustainable paid or voluntary employment and/or training.
Role
This is a rewarding and dynamic community-based role where no day is the same and you’ll be making a genuine difference to people’s lives. Employment Officers work in a person-centred way using the model of supported employment including Individual Placement & Support (IPS) to find and secure paid work, voluntary work or training by:
- Providing place-based support at various locations across Southampton, as well as running drop ins and advocating for your clients by engaging with employers.
- Supporting and motivating individuals from a range of backgrounds.
- Regularly meeting with clients to listen, offer support and help them identify their best job match, reflecting their skills and aspirations.
- Supporting clients with CVs, application forms and interview techniques.
- Sourcing job opportunities for your clients through regular contact with local employers.

What you will need is the ability to motivate and build relationships with clients, strong organisational skills, the confidence to communicate and engage with a range of employers, and a fundamental belief that anyone who wants to work, regardless of their disability or disadvantage, can work.
The post is fixed term until 31 st March 2026, 37 hours a week, and occasional evening / weekend work may be required. Support, supervision and training are provided. Having a Level 4 qualification in Information Advice & Guidance (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards this qualification, is essential for this role.
