Endoscopy Practitioner – 6 Month Fixed Term Role | Theatre | Excellent Benefits | 37.5 hours per week | Spire Parkway Hospital | Solihull
Spire Parkway Hospital are looking for an experienced Endoscopy Practitioner to join our Theatre Department on a 6-month fixed term contract. The suitable candidate will support the senior staff, ensuring high standards of effective care are delivered to all patients within the Theatre suite, whilst maintaining communication within the team.

Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states, “Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers.”
Our dedicated hospital team are passionate about excellent patient care, and we offer a range of specialist treatments to patients across Birmingham, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures and excellence in specialist fields like orthopaedics, women’s health and cancer care. We have 51 bedrooms and five operating theatres.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare an Endoscopy procedure room for endoscopy in relation to instrumentation, equipment and supplies required for specific procedures, ensuring waste is kept to a minimum
- Ensure all necessary and emergency equipment is available and in working order
- Act as specialist/link person having undergone the relevant training sessions in your area of expertise
- Participate in the on call rota in order to provide an out of hours service
- Ensure the Patient Record is completed in a timely and accurate way.
- Act as preceptor for student ODP’s, learners, junior nurses and HCA’s, where appropriate and participate in teaching within your sphere of knowledge and skill
- Run a procedure list without supervision and supervise / mentor junior staff.
- Perform Airway
- Organise own time and be responsible for appropriate delegation of staff and duties.
- Maintain effective channels of communication at all times.
- Deliver patient care in accordance with recognised standards of research based clinical practise.
- By precept and example, to ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
- Understand and apply a holistic patient centred care approach, identifying and taking into account specialist clinical needs whilst the patient is in the Theatre Department.
- Work within a flexible working roster, designed to achieve the most effective use of staff for the patient’s requirements.
- Ensure that all elements contained within the HCPC/NMC Code of Professional Conduct are adhered to and ensure that you maintain registration requirements.
- To ensure that Clinical Governance and risk management are embedded within daily practice.
- Provide and receive patient information, ensuring that all patient information is provided, received and recorded in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Spire Policies.
- Carry out any other duty that reasonably falls within the general nature and level of responsibility of the post.
Who We're Looking For
- Registered Nurse NMC or Registered Operating Department Practitioner, HCPC Registration with no restrictions
- Previous experience within a Theatre Environment, Substantial perioperative experience.
- Competent across a range of clinical skills supported by professional competence and knowledge
- Able to use evidence-based practice to provide high standards of care.
- Knowledge of appropriate standards and external bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission
- IT literate and a competent user of the MS Office suite of products
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of health policy and professional health agendas
- Able to deal effectively with challenging situations and challenging individuals
- Capable and confident, with the ability to work on own initiative
- Excellent organisational skills and Able to work to tight deadlines
- Flexible approach to work and working patterns
