Job Description

The Engineering Data Administrator supports engineering teams by ensuring technical and project data is accurately captured, structured, maintained, and quality-controlled across designated systems and datasets. The role requires a basic understanding of engineering documentation and terminology to correctly interpret information from drawings, specifications, spreadsheets, and technical reports.

The primary focus of the role is data entry, data cleansing and data validation. The individual will ensure engineering data is complete, consistent, and structured in accordance with defined data standards so that it can be reliably used for reporting, analysis, and project decision-making.

While the role does not involve engineering design or technical analysis, a foundational engineering awareness is necessary to recognise key data elements, identify anomalies or inconsistencies, and ensure that technical information is captured correctly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Input engineering and project data into designated systems, databases, or structured spreadsheets.
  • Extract relevant information from engineering documents such as drawings, technical reports, specifications and schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of engineering assets, components, project information, or configuration data.
  • Identify and resolve incomplete, inconsistent, or duplicated data entries.
  • Support projects as they evolve through the project engineering lifecycles.
  • Review datasets to ensure they comply with defined data structures, naming conventions and quality standards.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively and consistently with a wide set of project stakeholders.
  • Perform regular data cleansing activities to maintain the reliability and usability of engineering datasets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data capture, consistency and data handling processes.

Work Experience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering, Software, IT or a closely related discipline.
  • Basic understanding of engineering terminology, documentation, and technical data.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with large volumes of structured information.
  • Experience using spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel for data entry, data review, and data organisation.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies, missing information and data quality issues.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to follow defined processes and standards.

  • Desirable Skills

    • Good Communication skills - Makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens effectively; clarifies information as needed.
    • Experience or awareness of Defence security protocol and classification standards.
    • Ability to handle discussions / communications independently.
    • Works in a Collaborative environment.
    • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and customer needs.
    • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Intermediate+)
    • Comfortable working with unstructured data and building data pipelines.
    • A good awareness of data quality and structure.
    • An eye for detail.
