Summary

As a Engineering Program Manager (EPM) within Apple Services Engineering (ASE) Human Evaluation, Insights and Science organization, you will play a critical role in driving the development and deployment, and governance of machine learning (ML) models and AI systems that align with the ethical principles and Apple’s corporate policies. This role requires strategic leadership, strong cross-functional collaboration, and technical expertise to ensure Natural Language Search (NLS) technologies are safe, equitable, and trustworthy.

You will work closely with engineering, policy, risk management, legal, and product teams to operationalize Responsible AI principles, develop scalable frameworks, and deliver innovative solutions that adhere to the highest ethical standards.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership; Lead end-to-end program management for initiatives related to Responsible AI, from inception to development.
Planning & Execution: Develop comprehensive yearly roadmaps and detailed quarterly/monthly execution plans, aligning priorities across teams to ensure timely delivery of key milestones.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineers, researchers, data scientists, and product teams to define and implement ethical AI standards.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risk associated with ML models, ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines.

Policy Development & Execution: Translate Responsible AI principles into actionable policies and technical solutions. Collaborate on the development of frameworks that address fairness, privacy, transparency, and accountability.

Proactive Problem Solving: Anticipate potential challenges and risks, “look around corners,” to address issues before they escalate, ensuring smooth execution of projects.

Stakeholder Communications: Act as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders, presenting updates, risks, ,and success to leadership.

Scalability: Develop and implement process that ensure Responsible AI practices are scalable across teams, models, and geographies.

Metrics & Reporting: Establish metrics for measuring success in Responsible AI initiatives and provide regular reporting to stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in program or product management, preferably in AI, machine learning, or a related field.
Familiarity with AI/ML tools, frameworks, and deployment pipelines.
Experience working in regulated industries or adhering to compliance frameworks and knowledge of global AI policies, regulations, and standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven experience in managing complex, cross-functional engineering programs.
Strong technical background, with the ability to engage deeply with engineering teams.
Ability to translate abstract ethical principles into tangible technical solutions.
Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting to leadership.
Strong understanding of Responsible AI principles, including fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics.
Excellent risk management and mitigation skills, especially in AI/ML contexts.
