The General Dental Council (GDC) is the UK-wide statutory regulator of the dental profession. We protect patients by ensuring all dentists and dental care professionals are qualified, competent, and registered with us.

The ORE is an exam that overseas qualified dentists have to pass in order to register with the GDC. Registration allows dentists to practice dentistry unsupervised in the UK.
Responsibilities will include approving draft papers and details of tests, reporting on any amendments, and ensuring questions conform with GDC guidelines for the assessment of candidates.
This role is home based with frequent travel and overnight stays will often be required during examinations at education and training institutions across the UK.
About you
You will need to be a dentist registered with the General Dental Council, either in practice or retired for less than 2 years.
You will also require recent experience of dental undergraduate examining, plus a working knowledge of current guidance on the UK undergraduate dental curriculum and standards, as well as contemporary evidence-based assessment methods.

Due to the nature of the role being a worker agreement to provide services on an ad-hoc basis without any mutuality of obligations on either side. Although the GDC would normally expect External Examiners to be prepared to undertake approx. 6 days per year and, at least a 1day workshop every 18 months.
