Purpose of the role

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead our Financial Accounting team and support the delivery of accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting for the Colas UK Group. This role is well‑suited to a technically strong, qualified accountant who enjoys managing people, driving process improvement and working closely with stakeholders across the business. You will have full ownership of Group reporting, statutory accounts, audit coordination and core financial controls, and you will play a central role in developing a high‑performing finance team.

Main Responsibilities

In this role, you will take responsibility for coordinating and consolidating the Group’s monthly management accounts and ensuring these are completed in accordance with the Group timetable. You will also prepare and submit quarterly consolidated financial reporting under IFRS to our Parent Company in France. Alongside this, you will oversee the production of monthly management information for Head Office departments, ensuring internal stakeholders receive accurate and meaningful insight.

You will manage the preparation, audit and timely sign‑off of statutory accounts for all Colas UK subsidiaries ahead of the Annual General Meeting. A key part of your role will involve maintaining strong balance sheet control through regular reconciliations and reviews, as well as overseeing VAT submissions, fixed asset accounting and the application of IFRS 16. You will also monitor recharge accounts, coordinate hedging arrangements with the Group, and ensure that all insurance accounting and related policies are kept up to date.

Your contribution to the year‑end process will include preparing audit schedules, liaising closely with external auditors and ensuring audit requests and findings are handled
efficiently. You will also oversee other statutory obligations, such as ONS reporting, and provide support services and financial reviews in collaboration with internal budget holders. In addition, you will be expected to take on further duties as required by the Head of Accounting, Tax & Statutory Reporting, while ensuring that all activities are carried out safely, responsibly and in line with environmental and corporate requirements. A vital part of your remit will be ensuring the ongoing development and motivation of the finance team to support the needs of the wider business.

Ideal Candidate

To succeed in this role, you will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with between one and three years of post‑qualification experience. You will bring a strong technical accounting background and the confidence to lead, coach and motivate a team. Excellent communication skills will be essential, as you will need to work closely with both internal colleagues and external auditors, offering clear advice and insight where required.

You will have a solid understanding of company taxes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret complex financial information. The role requires someone who can work methodically, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet strict deadlines without compromising on quality. You will be comfortable working with ERP systems and highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Above all, you will be committed to maintaining high standards, fostering strong working relationships and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
