Role details

A leading business in the Retail sector is seeking a detail oriented Financial Accountant to join their finance team. In this role, you will take ownership of accounting support across key cost areas including IT, marketing, and property expenditure, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded in line with company policy. You will play an important part in the month-end close process, supporting the submission of financial results to Group while ensuring the accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting. The role requires a proactive approach to preparing journals, investigating variances, and maintaining strong financial controls. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure financial information reflects the most up-to-date business activity, while also liaising with auditors and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across UK and international teams.

Responsibilities of the Financial Accountant

  • Take responsibility for delivering accurate accounting support for IT, marketing, and property expenditure, ensuring all costs are recorded in line with company policy.
  • Support management in closing and reporting month end submissions to Group, contributing to timely and precise financial results.
  • Reconcile, investigate, and clear monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations with diligence and accuracy.
  • Source and post required adjustments into the ERP system with meticulous attention to detail, maintaining high standards and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate initiative when preparing journals and identifying variances within your areas of responsibility, ensuring transparency in financial reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with business partners to ensure financial statements reflect the most current information available.
  • Adhere strictly to financial controls within a Sarbanes-Oxley environment, performing monthly, quarterly, and annual SOX controls as required.
  • Liaise professionally with internal and external auditors as necessary, providing clear documentation and explanations.
  • Lead on continuous improvement initiatives by establishing sound processes between UK & ROI teams and international colleagues.
  • Provide ad hoc support as required by the business, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to assist wherever needed.

    • Understand P&L drivers, margins, and KPIs so you can interpret results meaningfully for non-finance colleagues.

    • Trained in industry.
