We are recruiting for a Fire Safety Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Fire Safety Manager will provide expert professional advice, leadership, and operational management on all aspects of fire safety across the Trust. The post holder will ensure compliance with statutory fire safety legislation, NHS Fire code, Health Technical Memoranda (HTM), and Trust policies, supporting the Trust to meet its legal duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Job description
The remit of the postholder includes but is not limited to the following duties:
Provide professional safety leadership and management to ensure that the Trust complies with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO)
The post holder will assume responsibilities as required in accordance with HTM 05-01: Managing Healthcare Fire Safety (Fire Safety Manager)
To act as the Estates & Facilities Directorate lead person in relation to providing advice on the management of fire safety matters
Manage the external Fire Safety Advisory team
Responsible for delivery of fire safety training programmes to ensure Trust staff who occupy North Bristol NHS Trust premises are suitably trained for their area of responsibility
Monitor suitability of training programmes and participation rates for fire safety training to ensure Trust achieves fire safety training targets.
Develop new and refresh existing fire safety training packages as required
Organise fire safety drills (including desk top scenario exercises) to monitor effectiveness of training and make recommendations for improvement opportunities.
The post holder will be responsible for leading and managing the implementation of the Trusts fire risk assessment programme, including annual inspections of all properties

Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum qualification of a relevant Masters degree in: Science, Engineering or Fire Engineering/Fire Safety degree or
- Evidence of detailed knowledge and understanding of the entire suite of HTM's, Building Regulations Documentation and other related estate and engineering best practice guidance documents.
Desirable
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in Healthcare Estates Management
Work Experience
Essential
- Must have substantive professional experience working in a senior fire safety position within the Healthcare Sector
Desirable
- Experience of working at corporate/senior level and influencing strategic direction.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential
- Ability to interpret health and safety legislation and identify the implications for the Trust, diagnose highly complex problems and formulate corrective action at both strategic and local level.
Desirable
- Excellent presentation and training skills with the ability to undertake presentations and training to a wide variety of staff both internally and externally.
