Our Acute Medical Unit (AMU)
Located within theUrgent and Emergency Care Centre
Purpose-built49-bed inpatient unit
Manages an average of50 medical admissions per day
Diverse caseload acrossgeneral and acute medical specialties
12 substantive consultant acute physiciansproviding 7-day cover
Newly Established Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit
Located within the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre
Newly established with opportunities for further development
Multidisciplinary Team & Training
We work closely with a large team of medical staff, including:
Foundation Year doctors (FY1FY2)
Resident doctors from across a range of training cohorts
Acute Internal Medicine higher specialty trainees
Clinical Fellows
Physician Associates
Our structured rota ensures exposure to:
Clerking and procedural work
Ambulatory assessment and outpatient management
Ongoing inpatient care
We also benefit from daily in-reach support fromrenal medicine, cardiology, respiratory, and gastroenterology.

Weekly departmental teaching
Multidisciplinary in-situ simulation sessions
Point-of-care ultrasound training
Supervised trainee-led ward rounds
MRCP PACES bedside teaching programme
