Description: Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Fixed Term for 2 years Join us to support the Council's governance processes and advise elected Members, Directors and other Council officers on the constitution. We are a team of 5 Governance Support Officers and 4 Senior Governance Support Officers who work across all governance aspects of the council, supporting scrutiny, regulatory, Council and Executive meetings. Most of the work involves liaising with Directors and Members, preparing agendas, giving constitutional advice, taking minutes of meetings, advising and supporting Chairs and some research and report writing. This is a full-time, fixed term position working 37 hours per week (for 2 years). You must be able to do evening meetings as and when required, this can fluctuate dependent on the calendar of council meetings. You'll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at City Hall or working remotely from home to suit your needs. Under our new ways of working policy you must work from a non-home base location for a minimum of 2 days per week. What you'll be doing Managing a caseload of governance related activities, you'll write high quality minutes, reports, presentations, and other communications. You'll create documents and plans which guide governance and scrutiny activity and carry out checks to ensure delivery is in line with rules and procedures. Creating and updating accurate records, you'll understand and interrogate data as appropriate to support governance and scrutiny activity. You'll provide detailed information, advice, and guidance to staff, Council leaders, politicians, partners, and residents as well as liaise with the public, either remotely or face-to-face, providing support the effective use of technology in their interaction and interface with the governance mechanisms of the Council. You'll attend meetings/appeals/formal hearings and represent the service in formal meetings, presentations, and discussions. What you'll need You'll have experience working in a role which supports organisational governance or other similar role which involves understanding and applying legislation and/or organisational governance policies, procedures, and practices. With strong customer service skills, you'll be able to effectively provide a service to others, maintain successful relationships, and persuade/negotiate actions to secure desired outcomes. Using proficient IT sk
ills, you'll be able to use standard IT systems with competence. You'll have a good level of political awareness and knowledge of current challenges/issues/ developments affecting the area of work. Working autonomously, you'll be able to plan and organise workloads to meet agreed timescales, and self-resolve most routine problems.
