General Practice Assistants (GPAs) form an important part of the multi-disciplinary team within Primary Care. GPAs provide support through a combination of administrative and basic clinical duties, helping to reduce GP workload, improve practice efficiency, and contribute to a positive patient experience within General Practice.
This vacancy is based at Fairhill Medical Practice. While employed through Kingston Primary Care Network, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the Fairhill Medical Practice team, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care and the day-to-day running of the practice.
The role is for 20 hours per week, worked over 4 to 5 days. The successful candidate will be required to work Wednesday mornings (9:00am1:00pm) and afternoon sessions (2:00pm6:00pm) on the other working days, with Wednesday and Friday being essential days that must be covered.
The post holder will work closely with another General Practice Assistant and will be expected to provide flexibility to cover morning sessions during periods of annual leave or other absences when required. Wherever possible, sufficient notice will be provided to support any temporary changes to the working pattern.
GPAs play a vital role in improving practice efficiency by undertaking routine clinical and administrative tasks. This enables GPs and nurses to focus on more complex patient care, helping to streamline patient flow, improve access to services, and enhance the overall patient experience.
Strong communication skills are essential, as the GPA will regularly liaise with patients, healthcare professionals, and external organisations.
The postholder will participate in an annual appraisal with their manager. Agreed performance and training objectives will be reviewed regularly to support professional development and meet the evolving needs of the practice.
