Our vision is to be a district which combines a strong, sustainable economy with a great quality of life. To achieve this we need the very best people working for us - passionate, confident and flexible. If this sounds like you, why not join us through our higher-level apprenticeship programme.

We are looking to appoint a newly qualified graduate to work in our Accountancy/Internal Audit teams to study towards a professional accountancy qualification.

Why us?

Role

Kirklees Council is an organisation with an annual gross controllable budget of approximately £1billion. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a Finance team with a wealth of experience on a broad range of areas including:

  • Strategic and directorate financial planning and advice, support to individual budget holders with budget preparation and monitoring, provision of the Council’s principal accounting systems, and preparation of the Council’s statutory accounts.
  • Treasury management (ensuring that borrowing costs are kept to a minimum whilst earning interest from cash balances).
  • Internal Audit (providing the Council with assurance that our internal financial and business procedures and processes are robust and provide a sound level of control).

  • We want to help you get the work-life balance right, offering flexible working and options for home based working where we can.

What do we need from you?

You will hold a degree at 2.1 or above and have excellent A level results (equivalent of 3 x Grade B).

You will need to be committed to working within a public sector environment and delivering a high quality Accountancy/Internal Audit service. You will be able to evaluate financial and management information quickly and accurately, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong literacy and numeracy skills, be comfortable with a range of IT packages/systems and be willing to study over an extended period of time.

Appointment will be at the bottom of the salary scale with annual progression upon exam success and satisfactory performance within the workplace.
