Job Description

Join our tight-knit Transportation Consultancy team and kickstart your career working on projects that shape how people move. From designing Active Travel and Bus Priority schemes to developing Transport Strategies and complex Business Cases, you will gain hands-on experience in scheme development, modelling, and economic appraisal.

Location

This role is based in the North of England however you may be required to travel to Costain Manchester office

Costain Graduate Development Programme

The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job and through external training as needed.

The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond. We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by Costain.

Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way. In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership.

Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including energy, nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the design and delivery of highway safety, capacity, and sustainable transport schemes.
  • Assist in data analysis, transport modelling, and economic assessments.
  • Draft technical reports and contribute to the preparation of Transport Business Case documents.
  • Collaborate with senior consultants to provide innovative solutions for our clients.

 Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

  • Education: A degree in a related field (e.g., Geography, Mathematics, Town & Country Planning, or Civil Engineering).
  • Skills: Exceptional written and verbal English, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word).
  • Attributes: A genuine passion for the transport sector and a proactive, "willingness to learn" mindset.

  • Minimum 2:1 achieved or expected in relevant discipline
