Role overview
This is a hands-on Financial Controller role with real ownership of the firm’s financial control environment. You will take responsibility for the management accounts process, cashflow forecasting, audit coordination and working capital oversight, ensuring reliable, timely financial information to support decision-making.
You’ll work closely with the Finance Director, senior leadership and practice heads to improve financial visibility, strengthen controls and support continued growth.
Key responsibilities
Management accounts & reporting
- Full ownership of the monthly management accounts process from close through to delivery
- Ensuring accuracy of revenue recognition, WIP, debtors, accruals and provisions
- Maintaining balance sheet integrity with robust reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Continuous improvement of reporting timelines, clarity and financial insight
Cashflow, working capital & operational finance
- Ownership of short and medium-term cashflow forecasting and reporting
- Active management of WIP, debtors and lock-up alongside practice leadership
Audit & statutory compliance
- Leading the year-end audit process and acting as primary contact for external auditors
- Ensuring audit readiness throughout the year with strong documentation and controls
- Oversight of VAT, tax and wider regulatory compliance, including coordination with external advisers and ensuring robust, accurate reporting.
Budgeting, forecasting & financial insight
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and reforecast cycles
- Providing financial analysis to support commercial decision-making
- Monitoring KPIs such as utilisation, realisation, recovery rates and lock-up
Process improvement & systems
- Improving finance processes, reporting capability and MI infrastructure
- Supporting development of finance systems and reporting automation
- Ensuring scalable finance processes as the business grows
Team support
- Supporting and mentoring members of the finance team
- Acting as a key finance contact for stakeholders across the firm
About you
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
- Experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, ideally within professional services or legal
- Strong ownership mindset around management accounts, cashflow and financial control
- Confident managing audit processes and statutory reporting
- Strong technical accounting skills combined with commercial awareness
- Comfortable working in a growing, evolving business environment
- Strong communicator able to engage partners and non-finance stakeholders
