Are you a highly skilled and experienced leader in Commercial Consulting with deep expertise in the NHS and broader healthcare systems? NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) is seeking a visionary Head of Commercial Consulting to shape and deliver consulting-led commercial and efficiency strategies that support transformation across NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Systems (ICS), national NHS bodies, and the wider public sector.
In this pivotal role, you will lead client-facing engagements focused on procurement transformation, cost optimisation, contract redesign, and supplier relationship management. Your deep understanding of NHS policy, procurement regulations, and the financial pressures within healthcare will be key to driving impactful change.
This role is hybrid, with a base location of London, Leeds or Manchester and client travel as required.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead the development and delivery of NHS-focused commercial consulting strategies that drive efficiency, integration, and improved outcomes across NHS Trusts, ICSs, national bodies, and the wider public sector.
- Oversee complex client engagements in procurement transformation, contract redesign, and cost improvement planning. Ensuring solutions are tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities within healthcare.
- Support clients in navigating key commercial frameworks and policies, including Public Contract Regulations (PCR), NHS England Commercial Standards, Net Zero, and Social Value, with clarity and confidence.
- Shape and promote NHS-specific commercial propositions aligned to frameworks such as NHS SBS and Crown Commercial Service (CCS), helping clients unlock strategic value.
- Build trusted relationships with senior NHS stakeholders, offering expert guidance on commercial strategy and transformation, and positioning NHS SBS as a partner of choice.
- Drive business development and growth, identifying new consulting opportunities, leading proposal creation and bid submissions, and contributing to a strong and sustainable pipeline.
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive experience delivering commercial consulting services to NHS organisations or equivalent public healthcare bodies, with a strong track record of driving measurable impact.
- Deep knowledge of NHS procurement policy and regulations, including Public Contract Regulations (PCR 2015), and the ability to guide clients through complex governance and compliance landscapes.
- Proven success in business development and sales within a consulting environment, including opportunity identification, bid development, and client engagement.
- Strong understanding of NHS commercial priorities, including Net Zero and Social Value strategies, and the ability to embed these into client solutions and propositions.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across executive, clinical, and operational teams in healthcare settings.
- Commercial and financial acumen, applied to cost improvement planning, contract lifecycle optimisation, and the development of sustainable, value-driven consulting solutions.
It would be great if you had:
- Public sector framework and regulatory experience (PSR, PCR, CCS, NHS frameworks).
